What to expect
An eight-minute cable car ride lifts you from Wasserauen to the grassy top of the Ebenalp, with the Säntis range on one side and the green hills of Appenzell rolling towards Lake Constance on the other. A 25-minute walk down passes the Wildkirchli caves to the Aescher, the mountain inn built into the cliff face. The path is steep in places and busy on fine weekends.
