What to expect
A funicular from Unterwasser in the Toggenburg climbs to Iltios, and a cable car continues to the Chäserrugg at 2,262 m. The wooden summit restaurant by Herzog & de Meuron sits on the Churfirsten ridge, which drops away almost 1,800 m to Lake Walen on the far side. Easy paths lead along the top, with views to the Säntis and the Glarus Alps, and in autumn the Toggenburg often lies under a sea of fog.
