What to expect
A gondola rises from Rivera, between Lugano and Bellinzona, to Alpe Foppa at 1,530 m. Here Mario Botta's stone chapel of Santa Maria degli Angeli juts out over the Ticino hills, looking towards Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano. Kids get a summer toboggan run, a zip line and an adventure park, and fit walkers can climb to the 1,961 m summit or follow the ridge to Monte Lema.
