About Peakobello
Peakobello is run by Florian Follonier. I live in the Zurich area, and I'm a passionate hiker and skier. I built Peakobello to answer the question I ask before every mountain day: will the view at the top be clear, or will I pay for the cable car and stand in a cloud?
By profession I'm a cloud and AI architect at Microsoft, and I hold a PhD from the University of Bremen. Peakobello is a personal project and is not connected to my employer. More about me: florianfollonier.com.
How the site is made
- Verdicts: every summit gets a score from MeteoSwiss ICON-CH forecasts using a published formula, updated every three hours. I check past verdicts against measured sunshine at MeteoSwiss stations and publish the hit rate. See How it works.
- Travel times: from the Swiss public timetable and OpenStreetMap routing.
- Summit facts: prices, seasons and lifts come from the operators' websites. Facts I haven't checked yet are marked on the page.
- Personal notes: notes signed with my name are my own experience. Tips from other sources are labelled as such.
- AI: I use AI tools to help write the code, the summit descriptions and the translations. I read the English and German texts myself. French, Korean and Chinese are machine translations that a native speaker has not reviewed yet.
